Since 2018, 3773 men in Alberta aged 20-49 have died due to drug toxicity. In Calgary, April of 2023 recorded the most accidental drug toxicity deaths. The Alberta trades industry comprises approximately 84% men, and 71% are between the ages of 25-54. Due to this dominant demographic and the unique risk factors present within the trades, more robust mental health and substance use education is required.
Our training examines the Canadian drug toxicity crisis’s impacts on the trade industry. It addresses specific job site risk factors, explores adaptive strategies, and delivers resources for mental health and substance use support from a harm reduction lens.
The Mental Health, Substance Use, and the Trades workshop can be delivered to any Calgary-based trades-related organization and is designed to educate all levels of the industry, from apprentices to management.
