SafeLink Alberta’s Impact: Back to School with MRU!

Alisha OstbergBlog, condoms, events, safer sex

As another school year commences in Calgary SafeLink Alberta reconnects with many institutions with various Students Unions, Queer Students organizations and Campus Health care centres to provide the resources for sexual health and wellness and the prevention of sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs).

First up for 2023 on our calendar was the Mount Royal University Student Carnival, where we provided safer sex supplies, printed resources and in-the-moment STBBI education and information to students while exposing students to our famous penis ring toss game!

What happened in 4 hours?

  • We had 709 students come by our booth to get safer supplies and information and play our game.
  • We distributed all of our 85 swag bags
  • We distributed 1350 condoms to campus members

Special thanks to the MRU Students Union for inviting us to participate again this year. The often eager and sometimes shy students who came by to collect their supplies, play our game and pick up their tokens for campus goodies, all while enjoying frank, open and informative conversations.

Watch for us at a learning institution you attend, including Bow Valley College (BVC), Mount Royal University (MRU) and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) events scheduled for October.
