Lest We Forget

Alisha OstbergBlog, human rights, stigma

Next week is a time for us all to honour those who fought for our freedom. It’s a time to reflect on the past and take a moment to think and be gracious about living in such an incredible country.

As an agency it is also a time for us to reflect on the past and the fight against HIV/AIDS and the struggle of diminishing the stigma. We must not forget those who lost their lives in the 80s during the AIDS crisis. These individuals stood together and fought for what they believed in while raising their voices and demanding action.

Our fight is not over. HIV has come off the public radar because of improvements in medical treatment and the fact that it is no longer a death sentence. However, we are still seeing an increase of infections.

We’ve come a long way but there is still work to be done.

This Remembrance Day, take time to reflect on the past but also take time to reflect on the future and imagine what that will look like.

From all of us at HIV Community Link, thank you to the men and women who fought for us and those who continue to keep us safe today.
